Vickie Peterson – Business Spotlight Loving Seniors

Vickie Peterson connects with people using her selfie stick and that is exactly how we met. She was attending the wedding of her friend the bride and I was attending the wedding of my friend the groom. While I did not know a soul, it was clear Miss Vickie was having the most fun of anyone there as she used her selfie stick. No sooner had I asked about it, she whirled around, grouped us together and snapped our picture. She had it posted on Facebook before I ever got her name. We seemed to both recognize we were kindred spirits and the next thing I knew, she was booking me for an interview on her radio show. That?s Vickie!

Serving God’s People

The overarching theme of Vickie Peterson is ?serving God?s people? and she laughs when she says ?the Lord just keeps downloading these special projects and ideas to me. My job is to be obedient and do what the Lord instructs me to do.

Vickie has a passion for senior citizens and has served seniors her entire life. As a hairdresser, she learned of the heartfelt needs of seniors, ?the need was so great and the funding was so low, all I could do was pray.? In 2009 she established Helping Hands Senior Care, a licensed personal services agency which provides that little helping hand to keep seniors healthy and functioning safely in their homes.Helping Hands Senior Care is a provider of personal services under CICOA central Indiana?s one-stop resource center for aging adults where Vickie serves as an advisory board member. Helping Hands Senior Care provides services through the Medicaid Waiver disability program and CHOICE, they accept most insurance and of course private pay. Helping Hands Senior Care has a staff of dedicated caregivers who provide that extra care to cook meals, run errands or run the vacuum in order to keep seniors in their home. Vickie?s best employees are seniors themselves and word of mouth referrals bring dedicated helpers.

All Senior Citizens Connect is a 501c3 non-profit Vickie founded in 2011 with a mission to keep seniors in their own homes as long as possible. All Senior Citizens Connect advocates for seniors and provides education and resources to include events, entertainment, home improvement, elder law, banking, technology and more. Quality of life remains high when you are in your own home. Interacting with other seniors while looking forward to events keeps seniors inspired and connected. Vickie recommends building relationships with people or organizations who might be ready to step in when you need a little help in order to remain in your home.

All Senior Citizens Connect provides five big events each year to include lunch, entertainment, door prizes, and vendor booths to provide easy shopping for seniors. Vickie charges a nominal fee of $10 for these first class events. They are generally held at Old Bethel Church at 21st and Franklin Road. The events are hugely popular with as many as 200 seniors reconnecting with friends, laughing and honoring the Lord.

In April Vickie brings politicians for Senior Awareness. In June she has a jazz event. August is the Senior Ball.October is the Masquerade Ball and Christmas is a celebration of holiday cheer. There are monthly events including bingo plus to include speakers to keep connected to resources, chair exercises and more. Vickie has no shortage of ideas (like her recent brainstorm for a talent show) to motivate and entertain seniors.

Seniors Learn Technology

The 2nd Saturday of the month from 1-3 p.m. at the 38th Street Library 5420 E 38th Street, seniors learn technology with 30-45 minutes of instruction. She knows it is important for seniors to communicate with their grandchildren in a way they can understand. Vickie wants to adopt a nursing home and day care to insure visitors for a nursing home and allow children to identify closely with seniors.

The Vickie Peterson All Senior Citizens Connect Radio Show is the way she keeps her seniors informed. Every Monday from noon – 2 p.m., she welcomes guests and informs her audience of the many resources available to help seniors. She records her shows on Facebook live, so tune in at any time. Vickie welcomes guests to her show as a resource for her seniors. She has advertising spots available as well.

The Rockin’ With Seniors?TV Show will soon begin taping on faith-based Channel 40. Vickie will host the show which is currently in development. Channel 40 has been chasing Vickie for two years encouraging her to create her show for seniors. It is an exciting opportunity to sponsor her show with an ad and to appear as a guest too.

Generation to Generation is for women ages 3-103 where each generation should reach a generation and teach a generation. It is another one of the Lord?s downloads for Vickie. This group meets the 3rd Saturday of the month at the 38th Street Library from 1-3 p.m. It is a time to teach and reach girls with active interaction to learn entrepreneurial skills, praise dancing and much more.

Purse with a Purpose is for low income seniors, women re-entering back into the community from prison, women who are homeless or in shelters. Vickie collects gently used purses and fills them with a Bible, a piece of jewelry, personal hygiene items, and a CD of sermons. She is continually amazed at the people willing to donate all of these items to empower this ministry. It is another assignment from the Lord!

Books for Boys is yet another assignment the Lord put on Vickie?s heart. It is an ingenious way to build strong male relationships with boys ages 6-18. She is reaching out to barbers to take an interest in the young male clients by having books available at the barber shop. The young man reads the book and then gives a little book report on the next visit. It gets young men reading and it establishes rapport with a good role model. She is always looking for donated books to inspire young men.

Vickie is selfless as she serves God?s people. She also serves her community as President of the Warren Township Democratic Club. Her purpose is to encourage, motivate and uplift. She is a natural at motivational speaking because she lives it. She simply loves people. She uses her time and personal resources to fulfill the assignments the Lord deposits to her.

Partner With Vickie

Please join in Vickie?s many ministries by volunteering at All Senior Citizens Connect events. She would love to bridge cultural divides and encourages seniors of all races to attend her events. Because most of Vickie?s programs are funded through her own personal resources, she could bless more people in the community with a variety of donations.
